Donna's Blue Ridge Parkway Adventure

With the fall 2007 semester set to start in only a couple of weeks, I was still undecided what to do for my vacation. Gas prices that topped $4.00 a gallon ruled out driving my Jeep on a long trip, so I decided to explore something nearby - the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains in western North Carolina.
I used Mad Maps during my 5 day trip to guide me on scenic day trips I could take from my base of operations - a rather small cabin in one of the numerous motorcycle campgrounds in the area. The weather was cool at higher elevations, although in the valleys I was reminded it was still August.
The scenic vistas never seemed to end. A great trip without having to go too far.
